JANUARY 2019 TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to January’s Test Drive Meme! This month's Test Drive's theme is: NEW YEAR'S.
All Test Drive Memes contain at least one clue to the Deerington's upcoming in-game events for the month! Keep your eyes peeled! But...not literally.
Characters may die during TDMs, but you do not need to count it towards a game-canonical death unless you want to. Consider it a freebie. All TDMs can be considered game canon as TDMs introduce minor aspects about the world of Deerington that can be revisited by characters later on in the game. You may also use TDMs for your application writing sample as well as AC.
CW: Mind alteration, alcohol, options for self-harm, knife violence.
Don't forget to tag content whenever necessary. Have fun!
YOU BETTER GET THIS PARTY STARTED

There is also plenty of entertainment happening in various parts of the room. A table with beer pong for the adults who never outgrew their college days, a dart board, card games in the back, and a game called Guess the Candy for those who want to test their sweet tooth. Anyone who wins a round of any game will get rewarded with a small gift from home (no bigger than a toaster). Unfortunately will disappear once you leave the party, so make sure to enjoy it while you can.
The dance floor is also lively, the music upbeat and easy to move to no matter what your personal tastes might be. If you want a random dancing partner, take a dance card! Each one has a random, glowing number on it and it's your goal to find the person who matches. Once you do, no matter who it is, you'll find yourself literally stuck together (hopefully just by your hands, but it can be any body part) and will have to go through an entire dance (or maybe even two) with them before you come unstuck.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

If you're lucky, the person next to you will just have the urge to kiss you - and you might even have the urge to kiss them back! After all, sharing a kiss at midnight is supposed to bring you good luck for the rest of the year. And with the way everyone else is starting to act, you might need it. For some, the urge to kiss might be stronger than just a chaste peck. For those who find themselves wanting to get a little more intense, it might be best to try to sneak out the back and head back to your place. The moment you step outside into the cold air, though, the urges seem to disappear - unless, of course, you were in the mood all on your own.
If you're unlucky, there's a murderous rage that runs through you, and there seems to be a table of weapons near by to help encourage a messy time. Various knives, swords, machetes, and other blades are laid out, enough for almost everyone. You might find yourself driven to plunge your weapon into the closest person, or maybe someone you've hated for a long time, and even more - maybe someone you've loved. Whoever it is, the image of their face will be burned into your mind and you'll do everything you can to try and make them bleed. Hopefully they can fight for their life - or at least evade your attacks until they can trick you into going outside. Like the desire for love, the desire for murder will also disappear the moment that someone steps outside, regardless of whether or not they did so on purpose or just to try and hurt whoever they're after.
Character Arrival
You can read how all characters arrive in Deerington here. There is not a collective "all these characters showed up at the exact same moment" occurrence in Deerington. Since characters fall asleep, die, or pass out at various times throughout all their worlds, it wouldn't make too much sense if they arrived in game all at the exact same time. There should be some discrepancy between character arrival, whether by a couple minutes, hours, or even days up to a week.
The players are entirely in control of how/when they want to play their characters arriving in Deerington. For TDMs, you can play it like your character has just arrived and that can be maintained as your game canon, or you can wait until game events for that moment. Or you don't need to acknowledge it at all. The flexibility for character allows a bit more of an organic feel to the character arrival situation, so please play it to whatever feels right for you.
If you are interested in having an "arrival" introduction for one of your TDM prompts, you are more than welcome to explore that option.

So she's going to push this a little.
Also because... it's Chara. A maybe-friend.]
... I was friends with monsters. [A pause, her expression lighting up a little.] And Frisk! I was friends with Frisk.
[Partly because Frisk was friends with everyone, but still.]
no subject
[They're the first human that monsters have seen in generations. She says the name Frisk like they're supposed to know what that is, as if it's supposed to be important to them.]
[Their hands have curled into fists, clenched down by their side. They curl on the spot, as though preparing to dart off under their own power. They would be, except that there's nowhere to go. She's blocking their primary exit.]
No monster has even seen a human in generations.

She casts about for something else to say, noting Chara's tense posture. It occurs to her that Chara in Wonderland would remember if she rewound - the same likely applies here.
There's a little bit of sweat on her forehead. God, Chara always did that to her.]
Uh, like... like... [She can hardly remember the name of the goat lady. And definitely not at all of the goat man.] ...Tor... Toriel?
no subject
[It isn't a question. It's a furious demand, a challenge that blazes through parted lips and gritted teeth and a stare incensed, but, on closer inspection, not so creepy as one might think. Their eyes are an ordinary if subtly darker shade of brown, not yet rusted red with the circumstances of undeath and the turning of a clock, over and over, reset to zero.]
[That doesn't cut the power of their gaze. It only alters it.]
no subject
She takes a heavy breath, trying to find a firmness to add to her own voice. There's a telltale wavering to it, however, if Chara listens hard enough.]
I told you. I was friends with some monsters. In another place.
no subject
[Wishes they could stand. Squashes it down. What hope is there in wishing? It's not as if they'd be capable of towering over her, anyway. They're not capable of towering over anyone.]
What other place?
no subject
It's... a long story.
[Her voice settles a little.]
Do you want to come out and talk, Chara?
no subject
[It makes them - it makes their skin crawl, that she could know that without being asked, that she could callously use a name that should be given because it's theirs.]
You don't deserve to know that.
no subject
Okay, okay, I'm sorry. What should I call you then?
no subject
[That's - stupid, isn't it? Just wanting her to go away won't settle this ache in their chest, the worm-writhing of the great ugly grub of their SOUL where it sits in the cage of their ribs. There's too much she knows. Too much that they - don't know.]
You shouldn't...don't call me anything.
no subject
[She considers that. Her voice is as gentle as she can make it when she replies.]
People are going to have to call you something, as long as you're here...
no subject
[Be good. Be good. Be good. You're supposed to be trying. Even if she's talking to them like they're stupid, like they're a little kid, but they are, they're just a little kid and she's older than them and the urge to duck out from under the table and plunge into the thicket of dancing bodies, risking every danger that entails, is overwhelming.]
[They swallow it down and look at her with all the scornful self-assurance they possess.]
I know that. You must think I'm pretty stupid, don't you?
no subject
No, of course not! [She's quick to reply, to try and calm them down.] I'm just trying to help you.
[...But that's not something Chara would appreciate, is it?]
I... I owe it to someone.
[To Frisk. To Chara, too.]
no subject
[She's persistent. She's persistent in the way humans all are, but this time - oh, they've wised up, this time. They know what help is, when it comes from the likes of them. They're not that stupid, no matter what she says.]
Do you feel very much like you're helping?
no subject
[She's definitely not helping. But... she wants to. Not just because Chara's another familiar face in a large town.]
Okay, fine. I'll go. But... if you ever need help? Or even just... someone to talk to? [She stops just short of giving Chara her address. If it were her living there alone, she would have.] I work at the Arcadia Arcades. It's an old arcade at the northern side of town. We can hang out and play games. Okay?
no subject
[Their gaze is unerring, unblinking. She's made nothing but mistake after mistake, and her very first one was in initiating this entire conversation. This entire cursed exchange.]
If you do, what makes you think that would interest me whatsoever?
no subject
But she can't tell that to Chara now. Not yet at least.]
Even if it's not to see me. You might like the games. [She backs away a little, giving them more space, retreating slightly from that gaze. She tries to keep her voice level.] It's an open invite, okay? First few games are on the house.
no subject
[The possibility, apparently, is that she might. She knows their name, she knows things about them, about the monsters in their life. It isn't fair, of course, but why would it be? What have they ever done to merit fair?]
no subject
[She pauses, considering. Wondering what they'll say.]
Would you not like arcade games? There's uhm, fighting games and Pac-Man and adventure games...
[Another pause.]
...Have you ever played an arcade game?
no subject
[They draw the words out with as much haughtiness as they can bring to bear under a short timetable. This sort of thing would work on Asriel - acting more worldly and grown-up than they are in practice. It's not likely to work on someone older, who claims to know them. But maybe they can keep her guessing.]
[They should. They should keep her guessing.]
no subject
[She has a sudden idea she hopes will work. The lightbulb moment is practically visible on her face.]
Then don't tell me. Show me. Beat me at Street Fighter and I'll get you any food from the arcade store.
[She backs away a little further, as though worried for retribution. She's starting to draw some glares from curious bystanders.]
no subject
[She isn't.]
How stupid do you think I am, exactly?
no subject
Why would that mean I think you're stupid?
no subject
[They hate them. Truly, they do.]
Don't insult me. You think you can lower my guard?
no subject
...But then, that's always how it's felt with Chara.]
Is there anything I can do to help you trust me?
